Purpose

The purpose of this submission was to cast a disability lens over the Christchurch City Council’s Draft Annual Plan. 

Summary of DPA submission

Recommendations 

1. Support for central government to open more financial tools for local government to keep rates affordable in place of a strict legal rates cap. 

2. That the CCC continue to fund the Climate Resilience Fund by increasing funding through slightly increased rates. 

3. That the Contestable Community Grants Scheme receive an additional $7.12 million in funding. 

4. That the Environmental Partnership Fund receive an additional $300,000 in funding. 

5. DPA supported the proposed increase in funding for the Accessibility Improvements Fund from $100,000 to $150,000. 

6. DPA supported council co-investing with government and private partners into the restoration of the Canterbury Museum, Canterbury Provincial Chambers and Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre with improved accessibility into all venues being required. 

7. DPA supported proposed increases in Civil Defence Emergency Management spending.
